||"Moon at Megome"
("Megome no Tsuki")
||1930 (circa 1946-57)
||Private placement. Consigned by a discriminating southern USA collector.
||"D-seal" (used only 1931-41)
EARLY pre-War printing.
||9 3/8 x 14 1/4
||Very Fine. Skillfully executed "bokashi" shading to sky, trees, and clouds; light "gauffrage"
to tree; nicely detailed carving. Tiny "Made in Japan" stamping lower verso margin.
Deep saturation of colors. Clean frontside and verso. (Soft diagonal 2-inch crease
upper/right corner; 2-inch scotch-tape residue verso margin; two small "printer creases" left; light toning.)
||Narazaki #169; Hotei #165; Blair, Toledo 1936 #12.
||Beautiful moonlit scene done almost entirely as an "aizuri"
(shades of blue) print. One of
Hasui's most popular images. Early pre-War printing.
