||ISHIWATA, Koitsu (1897-1987)
||"Evening Glow at Namamugi, Yokohama"
("Namamugi no Yu")
||1931 ("First Edition" printing)
||Private placement. Purchased 1947--consigned by family of Army Air Force serviceman
stationed in Tokyo.
||Watanabe "B-seal" (lower right margin)
(used only 1927-32, and appropriate "First Edition" seal)
||9 3/8 x 14 1/4
||Very Fine. Superbly executed "bokashi" shading throughout print. Light "gauffrage" (embossing)
to crescent moon and buildings; strongly visible woodgrain in sky; life-like reflection; silver
metallic pigments to stone-pile lower/right; very highly detailed carving.
||Nearly Excellent. Deep, rich colors. Clean front and verso. (Very slight bumping to right margin
corners; very slight wear--otherwise flawless.)
||Wonderful colors--Yokohama harbor buildings set against a multi-color sky. Appropriate seal
for "First Edition" printing. A very rarely seen print.
