Seal, Carver/Printer Blocks cut by Mayeda.
Image Size Very LARGE format: 14 1/8 x 20 ("DOUBLE-oban")
Impression Very Fine. Skillfully executed "bokashi" shading; light "gauffrage" to sailboat and distant waves; life-like reflection in water; crisply detailed lines.
Condition Very Good. Fresh colors. Clean front and verso.
(Soft diagonal crease upper/left; few scattered marks; light wear; light toning.)
Reference/Illus "The Complete Woodblocks of Hiroshi Yoshida" #44; Blair 1930 Toledo Exhibition #254.
Comments Very large ("double-oban") beautiful Yoshida "sailboat image." Seldom seen--impressively large format and difficult to print. This is the "pinkish background 'Evening' version" (with distant sailboats left); five other variant states exist for this image (using different colors). NOTE: This print is special: "Sample + seal" over-printed above print's left horizon--(intended as a dealer's example). A bit of Yoshida's history.
A very RARE print.
