||"Shinto Shrine of Kasuga at Nara"
(titled only in English via verso "sticker")
(Shimbi Shoin Publisher ceased business in 1935)
||"Board of Tourist Industy -- Japanese Government Railways" Print
||Shimbi Shoin Publisher (Tokyo, 1905-35)
||Unusual small red oval "Ha-sui" seal.
||9 x 13 1/2
Superbly executed "bokashi" shading throughout print; nicely visible
woodgrain seen in sky; highly detailed carving.
Excellent colors. Very clean front and verso.
(Trimmed at image edge; two tiny staple holes; slight toning--as removed from
original 1936 calendar backing.)
Prior to our June 2003 article, was an UN-documented Hasui print.
(Incorrectly listed by
Hotei as a "variant" of the common #317 Watanabe "summertime Kasuga" print.)
||Extremely rare. Perhaps the only Hasui image by Shimbi Shoin Publisher.
Original "calendar state"
was issued by Japanese Government Railways in 1935/36.
For the serious Hasui collector.
