||"Scops Owl Under Crescent Moon" (given name)
||Obtained from Robert O. Muller's Collection following his death.
||Daikoku-ya (Tokyo publisher, 1818-1923)
||7 3/8 x 13 3/4 ("tanzaku")
||Very Fine. Skillfully executed "bokashi" shading throughout; nicely visible woodgrain entire background; the
crescent moon's edges, owl, and ginko leaves raised in "gauffrage"; "burnishing" to owl's black eyes;
sharp key-lines, much fine detailing.
||Excellent. Excellent colors. Clean front and backside. Full, original margins (note "kento marks" right edge,
bottom right). (Flawless.)
||"Crow, Cranes, and Camellias" pl# K-20.2 and cat# 80.
||A delightful image of a little scops owl perched on a ginko tree beneath a thin crescent moon. PRE-1923 earthquake (note: Daikoku-ya Publisher ceased
business in 1923). A very RARE print. (Original Koson painting known for this print.)
