Quite an unusual find. Minted in 1768-69, these old Japanese “four mon” coins were in common use throughout Japan during the mid-1700’s to
mid-1800’s. There is little doubt that THESE exact coins were indeed exchanged numerous times between
the “samurai class” and “merchant class” residents of Edo-era Japan. |
